About the Transformative Culture Project

 

The Transformative Culture Project (TCP) was founded in 2008, and uses media arts and culture as tools for education and employment for young people at risk of dropping out or facing other systemic barriers to success. Our unique earned revenue model harnesses the economic power of arts for youth and community development. Our Beyond Creative youth are hired by clients throughout Greater Boston for photography, video, podcasting and other digital media.  Through in-school arts programming taught by artists from the community, to holistic youth jobs training and experience, we provide a unique educational and entrepreneurial opportunity for youth to reach their full potential.

 

Overview of the Position

 

As Executive Director (ED) of TCP, you will support and lead a small, grassroots organization that has been deeply rooted in the Boston community for over ten years. Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining a strong organizational culture to support our passionate and experienced 3-4 person staff, and developing and executing on a fundraising and program strategy that delivers on the TCP mission. The Executive Director is also the primary fundraiser, responsible for raising an annual budget of $500,000. Fundraising tasks include individual donor cultivation, client cultivation (to drive earned revenue in collaboration with the Creative Director), and excellent management of new and existing funding partner relationships. 

 

Responsibilities

Leadership & Management:

  • Ensure that programs are effective, including conducting regular program evaluation, evaluation of quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems.
  • Actively engage and energize board members, event committees, alumni, partnering organizations, and funding partners.
  • Works closely with Board members to ensure that the Board is effective; ensure Board is kept informed and involved in decision making as appropriate 
  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain staff members. Working with the Managing Director to ensure that weekly staff meetings are effective.
  • Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.

Fundraising and Budgeting:

  • Develop annual fundraising plan and budget in collaboration with the Board of Directors; execute fundraising plan. 
  • Act in a fiscally responsible manner with awareness of budget and sources of income, and work with staff to track revenue and develop goals/prospects.
  • Manage staff responsible for day to day accounting; managing expenditures in accordance with the budget. 
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with core, sustaining funders.  Develop new sources of financial support. Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising. 
  • Cultivate client relationships for Beyond Creative production work to support the Creative Director’s earned revenue goals. 

Communications:

  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
  • Act as the external face of the organization to existing and potential community partners.  
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with community partners, and keep up to date with developments in professional and cultural fields relevant to the organization.

 

Qualifications

 

The Executive Director must be thoroughly committed to the mission of the organization. Specifically, we’re looking for a candidate who exhibits a consistent commitment to youth development and education, creativity and the arts, and work rooted in community.  

 

The ED will be thoroughly committed to TCP’s mission. Specific requirements include:

  • Proven track record of fundraising and grant writing.
  • Unwavering commitment to youth programming and education within a social justice and equity framework.
  • Ability to evaluate and report on program effectiveness in accordance with mission.
  • Strong ties to communities of color; ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
  • Proven leadership experience, and a strong desire to grow in a management role. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills, and  the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
  • Collaborative and community-oriented; comfortable working with a small, largely self-directed team.

The Board of Directors will begin to review resumes on August 29, 2019. Salary range is 50-60k to start with potential for bonuses and growth.
